Exchange Program between Survivors of the 9/11 Terror Attacks
and the 3/11 Great East Japan Disasters
Five members of the September 11th Families' Association will travel to Japan through the 6th International Survivor Exchange Program for Children and Community Survivors of 3/11 Great East Japan Disasters. This program is sponsored by the Japanese Medical Society of America with support from the American Airlines Miles for Kids in Need Program, and the United States-Japan Foundation, and International Rotary global grant. Program participants will visit disaster-stricken areas of the Tohoku region and speak with others who share the pain of losing loved ones.
Disaster psychiatrists and children's mental health counselors from the United States will also participate in the program. These professionals will visit with disaster survivors in Miyagi and Fukushima Prefectures. There will also be donations of the picture book "Sadako no Orizuru" that presents discussions between survivors of the 9/11 terror attacks and the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami through the story of atomic bomb victim Sadako Sasaki’s paper cranes.
