Welcome to the Japan Information Center (JIC) !Our mission at the JIC is to promote a better understanding of Japan and Japanese culture. To achieve this aim, we provide the public with a variety of information. Everyday, we answer inquiries concerning numerous subjects, including culture, politics, business, economics, and education. Upon request, we can send free materials. We also publish Japan Info, a monthly e-newsletter that features articles on current topics and highlights upcoming cultural events. In addition to being an informational resource, the JIC also provides several programs. Our School Caravan Program sends speakers to elementary, junior high, and senior high schools and, with the help of audio/visual materials, brings Japan right into the classroom. In cooperation with the New York City Board of Education, the JIC hosts the Teachers' Workshop, which gives educators, as well as the general public, a basic introduction to Japan. We also coordinate the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program and the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship Program.
