Japan in the Schools/Community

Teams of English and Japanese speaking volunteers visit schools and community centers to introduce Japanese language and culture. Visits are offered at no charge, and reservations can be made through the Society's website.

High School Japanese Language Contest

Each year, JASP partners with the Asian Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh to offer a Japanese language contest for high school students. Winning teams represent the region at the national Japan Bowl in Washington,
D.C. Students in formal high school programs, as well as those studying on their own, are encouraged to create a team and participate.

Cultural Events

The Society partners with regional organizations to promote Japan related events and activities. Recently, society members folded 1,000 cranes for display during the Phipps Botanical Garden's Japanese Language Contestants Fall Flower Show.
