6. UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP
Undergraduate
Student Scholarships are for high school
graduates who wish to study at a Japanese
university. The awards are tenable for five
years including
the one-year Japanese language program at a
Japanese language school prior to attending a
Japanese university as an undergraduate student.

QUALIFICATIONS: (for 2012 Scholarship)
- AGE: Applicants must have been born between April 2, 1990 and April 1, 1995.
- ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:Applicants must have completed 12-year-school education or finish high school education by March 2012.
- LANGUAGE: Applicants must
learn the Japanese language and receive
university education in the Japanese language.

EXAMINATION AND INTERVIEW: August
29, 30, 2011
ARRIVAL IN JAPAN: April, 2012
SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS:
- ALLOWANCE: Under the fiscal 2011 budget, each grantee will be provided monthly with 123,000 yen. (subject to change, however, depending upon the annual budget of each year.)
- TERM: Five years.
- TRANSPORTATION: Grantees will be
provided with an economy class air ticket to
and from Japan.
- SCHOOL FEES: Entrance examination,
matriculation and tuition fees at universities
will be exempted.
- ACCOMMODATIONS: Grantees may reside at
foreign student houses or residence halls of
national universities. Those who are not able
to find university housing will be required to
live in private housing.
- MEDICAL TREATMENT: Students may receive
subvention for part of the medical expenses in
Japan.

- The specific award amounts of each scholarship listed above are
current as of April 2011. These details are
subject to change.
- Although applicants may request a specific
host institution in any of the above
scholarships, official university assignments
are made by the Ministry of Education,
Culture, Sport, Science & Technology. The
Ministry's decision in this regard will be
considered final.
