The Government of Japan announced the recipients of its Spring 2014 Decorations which include two distinguished U.S. citizens from areas under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Japan in New York.
  • Dr. Robert G. Newman
    Former President of Beth Israel Medical Center
    President Emeritus of Continuum Health Partners
    Professor, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, 1994-2013

    Decoration: The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon
    For his outstanding contribution to promoting academic exchanges in medical fields between Japan and the United States and to the protection of the health care of Japanese citizens in the United States.
  • Dr. Seiichi Makino
    Professor Emeritus of Japanese and Linguistics & Director of the Japanese Program, Department of East Asian Studies, Princeton University

    Decoration: The Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon
    For his outstanding contributions in the mutual academic exchanges between Japan and the United States and the development of Japanese language education.
