About the JET Program

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program is a competitive employment opportunity that allows young professionals to live and work in cities, towns, and villages throughout Japan. It is the only teaching exchange program managed by the government of Japan.

Founded in 1987, JET has sent more than 70,000 participants from around the globe (including more than 35,800 Americans) to work in schools, boards of education, and government offices throughout Japan. Most participants serve as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) and work in public and private schools, while some work as Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) as interpreters/translators.

Being a JET is an opportunity to work and to represent the United States as cultural ambassadors to Japan. New applications are only accepted in the fall, so don't miss your chance!
