The Consulate General of Japan in New York is currently seeking to hire a local employee in the Economic Division.

1. Work Hours:
- Monday through Friday (except holidays), 9:15 am to 6:00 pm (1 hour lunch break)
- Leave policy: Weekends off (Sat. and Sun.), days the Consulate is closed, and annual paid vacation days.
- Benefits and compensation: Approximately $50,000 per year, determined based on education, work experience and other qualifications. Medical and dental insurance coverage available (with some employee contribution required).
- Place of work: Consulate General of Japan in New York

2. Starting Date:
Subject to discussion (a 2-month probationary period will occur before an offer of full employment is extended)
3. Duties:
- Communicating and supporting relationships with government and corporate contacts, including arranging and/or participating in meetings and reporting results clearly
- Daily research on Japanese business issues and U.S. economic conditions
- Writing and editing public statements by the Consulate
- Responding to telephone and e-mail inquiries from the general public related to matters under the jurisdiction of the Economic Division
- Various administrative duties, including support for Consulate receptions and other events (occasional after-hours work is required)
- Other duties as deemed necessary
- Daily research on Japanese business issues and U.S. economic conditions
- Writing and editing public statements by the Consulate

4. Qualifications:
- Must have a U.S. working permit
- Bachelor’s degree
- Interest in and knowledge of economic relations between Japan and the U.S.
- Excellent writing, research, communication and organizational skills (deadline-oriented and able to manage multiple projects)
- Is highly cooperative with other staff members
- A commitment to promoting Japan-U.S. relations
- Japanese language skills are not required but are welcome
