From Hurricane Katrina to Hurricane Sandy, the United States has had its share of natural disasters, which have claimed the lives of thousands of people and caused unprecedented destruction. Japan is also all too familiar with natural disasters. In this program, Mr. Nikai discusses the importance of promoting disaster risk reduction in Japan. Mr. Nikai also touches upon Japan’s disaster diplomacy agenda, and its involvement in disaster relief and reduction efforts in the Asia-Pacific region.
