The Japan Information Center at the Consulate General of New York is currently seeking a Public Relations Assistant. This is a CONTRACTED position that will run from August 1, 2020 until end of March 2021 (Start date of work is negotiable). Working hours will be Monday-Friday, 20-29 hours per week, with a flexible schedule.

We are looking for an organized coordinator who can work well with a dynamic team and assume the following responsibilities:

  • Assisting consulate staff with Japan-related social media postings and analyses of the Consulate's SNS accounts
  • Searching online for Japan-related events/articles for SNS repostings
  • Creation of presentations using Microsoft Power Point
  • Data gathering for said presentation materials
  • Assisting consulate staff with outreach activities to schools, universities and other educational organizations
  • Assisting consulate staff with governmental scholarship programs
  • Receiving and following up with public inquiries by phone and emails
  • Various administrative duties for various public relations and cultural events
  • Assisting consulate staff with various tasks as deemed necessary

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong writing/communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience with Social Media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.)
  • Knowledge and Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • At least two years of college education
  • MUST be a U.S. citizen, or permanent resident
  • Native-level English

Preferred experiences and skills:
  • Public relations or event planning
  • Knowledge of Japanese culture and/or Japanese work culture
  • Some Japanese language ability (though advanced Japanese language ability is preferred)
  • Prior work experience in a Japan-related organization
  • Photo editing, video editing, or graphic design knowledge is a plus
  • Basic proficiency in Adobe elements suite or equivalents
