Five members of the September 11th Families' Association will travel to Japan through the 6th International Survivor Exchange Program for Children and Community Survivors of 3/11 Great East Japan Disasters. This program is sponsored by the Japanese Medical Society of America with support from the American Airlines Miles for Kids in Need Program, and the United States-Japan Foundation, and International Rotary global grant. Program participants will visit disaster-stricken areas of the Tohoku region and speak with others who share the pain of losing loved ones.
Disaster psychiatrists and children’s mental health counselors from the United States will also participate in the program. These professionals will visit with disaster survivors in Miyagi and Fukushima Prefectures. There will also be donations of the picture book "Sadako no Orizuru" that presents discussions between survivors of the 9/11 terror attacks and the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami through the story of atomic bomb victim Sadako Sasaki's paper cranes.
米国同時多発テロ事件犠牲者の家族及び生存者（９１１家族会）のメンバーら４名が，米国日本人医師会の主催,及びアメリカン航空(Miles for Kids in Needプログラム)，米日財団（United States-Japan Foundation），国際ロータリーグローバルグラントの協賛により，「がんばろう東北 復興の折鶴プロジェクト 第７回 ＮＹから被災地へ復興の願いをこめ集います」として，東日本大震災の被災地を訪れ，家族を失った同じ悲しみを共有する被災者と，対話を通じた心の交流等の支援活動を実施します。
家族会メンバーには，米国から災害精神科医や子供の心理カウンセラーも同行し，総勢１２名で宮城県及び福島県を訪問し，被災者との対話集会を実施するほか，広島原爆の犠牲者である故佐々木貞子さんの折り鶴を通じた米国同時多発テロ事件の被害者と東日本大震災の被災者の交流の様子をまとめた絵本「サダコの折鶴」の寄贈，被災者同士の絆を象徴した木彫りの「復興の折鶴」の贈呈等が予定されています。
