Background

After graduating from Northwestern University in 1991, Mr. Koessler worked at a position of prominence at Coca-Cola then went on to become a senior consultant at Spartan Group. In 2012, he served as President of Canisius High School. He became President of the Buffalo Nihongo Club in 1997, and with his wife, Mrs. Kyoko Koessler, they have greatly furthered the development of the organization, inspired by their experiences in Japan.
From June 2002 when Mr. Koessler accepted an offer from the Government of Japan to assume the post of Honorary Consul General of Japan, he has played a crucial role in many different Japan-related fields in the Buffalo region.

Achievements related to Japan

Mr. Koessler has shown a tireless commitment to helping Japanese in the U.S. This has included his support of staff members of the Consulate General of Japan in New York by connecting them with notable Americans in his vast network in Buffalo. He has also come to the assistance of many Japanese citizens in the city by utilizing his close relations with the local police in Buffalo. For example, when a Japanese female was involved in an accident, his compassionate care helped ameliorate her situation.
Of special note is Mr. Koessler's active support of Japan after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. He organized and publicized a fundraiser on various media outlets to collect donations to help the Japanese people who had suffered from the earthquake.

Additionally, Mr. Koessler has played a significant role in enhancing the relationship between the sister cities of Buffalo and Kanazawa, and has raised funds for the maintenance of the Japanese Garden of Buffalo. Through successful negotiations as President of the Buffalo Nihongo Club, he expanded educational opportunities for students of the club so that they could use the facilities of the University at Buffalo. Furthermore, he has engaged in numerous cross-cultural events such as panel discussions related to Japanese and American culture in order to promote meaningful exchanges between Japan and the U.S.
