Consulate General of Japan in New York
Message from Ambassador Reiichiro TAKAHASHII am honored to be able to serve the many communities in my jurisdiction as Ambassador and Consul General of Japan in New York. I wish to strive to strengthen relations between the people of Japan and the United States of America.
It is the first time in 16 years that I have returned to the U.S. in an official capacity, having served as Counselor at the Japanese Embassy in Washington, D.C. from 1997 to 1999. In my thirty-five years of service in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I was also Ambassador to Afghanistan from 2011 to 2012. Most recently, I was Director General of the International Peace Cooperation Headquarters of the Cabinet Office which oversees Japan's participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
Due to my past experiences, I am excited to be in New York where I can actively engage in cross-cultural endeavors involving social, economic and political affairs in the area. It is my sincere hope that such interactions between the people of Japan and the U.S. will encourage cooperative friendships which deepen the understanding between the two nations. My staff members and I are here to assist in these endeavors in any way possible.
