As of today, I have assumed the post of Consul-General of Japan in New York. It is an honor to which I bring 35 years of dedication to civil service as a member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan. I recently arrived from Tokyo, where I had been serving as Chief of Protocol at MOFA's headquarters.

My understanding and appreciation of the United States have been cultivated through my time as Minister and Head of Chancery at the Japanese Embassy in Washington, D.C., as a Fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University, and as a student of economics at Swarthmore College, Pensylvania.

It is at these junctures that I felt the true importance of the propitious relationship between Japan and the U.S. Our best, cooperative endeavors toward the common goals of continued peace, security, prosperity and freedom will lead to better lives for the people of our two countries, and for those throughout the world.

As an extension of those efforts, here, in the New York-area, I greatly look forward to being an active, contributing member to its many local, diverse communities. Through events that share Japanese culture with Americans, as well as vice-versa, and through gatherings centered upon socio-political matters, it is my sincere hope that we can work together to deepen the friendships and understanding between the people of Japan and the U.S.
