Professor Sheldon M. Garon has long been a leading scholar in the promotion of Japanese studies at Princeton University, one of the foremost educational institutions in the United States. He has particularly distinguished himself in the field of modern Japanese history, contextualizing this subject through a transnational approach. By nurturing numerous scholars in Japanese studies, Professor Garon has been an exceptional educator who has significantly advanced Japanese studies throughout the U.S., and the world. Furthermore, he has played a pivotal role in fostering the strategic partnership between Princeton University and the University of Tokyo, facilitating extensive academic exchanges across various disciplines between the two institutions.
