Conferment of Decorations for 2022 Spring

On April 29th, 2022, the Government of Japan announced the recipients of its Spring 2022 Decorations which include a distinguished U.S. citizen from the area under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Japan in New York.
 
Mr. Takeshi Furumoto
Human rights activist, Honorary Chairman of New York Hiroshima-Kai
Decoration: The Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays
Services: Contributed to promoting the status of the Japanese American community in the United States and mutual understanding between Japan and the United States
 
Mr. Furumoto was born in a Japanese American internment camp during World War II, spent his childhood in his father's hometown Hiroshima, and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, he started a real estate company in Fort Lee, New Jersey, and has since been active in various activities to improve the status of the Japanese Americans as a prominent figure of the local community. Through his various activities as Honorary Chairman of New York Hiroshima-Kai and as a human rights activist, he has contributed to promotion of the status of the Japanese American community in New York and New Jersey as well as to the promotion of mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and the United States.
 
The Consulate General of Japan in New York would like to express its deepest respect to Mr. Furumoto for the contributions he has made.
