A Group of Chefs led by Restaurant Daniel of New York to Provide Emergency Relief Food for Victims of the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami of March 11th

June 28, 2011

On Sunday, 3 July 2011, a group of seven chefs (David Boulud, Floyd Cardoz, Craig Koketsu, Tadashi Ono, Francois Payard, Michael Romano and Bill Telepan), led by NY-based French Chef Daniel Boulud, founder of Restaurant Daniel, will visit Kamaishi City in Iwate Prefecture to provide specially prepared foods using mainly Japanese ingredients for approximately 1,000 victims of the recent disaster. The group of chefs wishes to make a statement of solidarity regarding the safety of Japanese foods, as well as express their respect and gratitude to the Japanese people for their important contributions to cooking and culinary arts around the world. Chef Boulud has expressed his hope that the food he and his seven colleagues prepare can bring some measure of comfort to those still suffering after the twin disasters of March 11th. In connection with the group's planned visit to Japan, they paid a courtesy call to Ambassador Shigeyuki Hiroki, Consul General of Japan in New York, on 14 June to explain their objectives to him.
