Make a Wish!: TANABATA Celebration @ Japan Information Center [ 6/22 - 7/10 ]

June 16, 2014
Tanabata is observed on the evening of July 7th. The festival traces its origins to the legend of Kengyu (Altair) and Orihime (Vega). They are lovers separated by the Milky Way, and are allowed to meet just once a year - on the seventh day of the seventh month. Children and adults write their wishes on tanzaku (narrow strips of colored paper) and hang them, along with other paper ornaments, on bamboo branches placed in the backyards or entrances of their homes. Please come, learn about Tanabata, a part of Japanese culture, and make a wish at the Japan Information Center.
