JAPANESE GOVERNMENT TO HONOR

The Government of Japan announced the recipients of its Autumn 2013 Decorations which include three distinguished U.S. citizens from areas under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Japan in New York.
  • Senator John Davison Rockefeller Ⅳ
    Chairman of the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, U.S. Senate, Former Governor of West Virginia
    Decoration: The Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun
    Senator Rockefeller will be awarded for his outstanding contribution towards the strengthening of economic relations and the promotion of people to people exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and the U.S.
  • Ambassador Rust Macpherson Deming
    Adjunct Professor, Japan Studies, Johns Hopkins University
    Chairman, The Japan-America Society of Washington D.C.
    Decoration: The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon
    Ambassador Deming will be honoured for his extraordinary work in strengthening relations and promoting mutual understanding between Japan and the U.S., through people to people exchange.
  • Dr. Felice Fischer
    Senior Curator of East Asian Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art
    Decoration: The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays
    Dr. Fischer will be awarded for her exceptional contribution to Japan-U.S. relations through the promotion of major cultural exchanges in the field of arts and for deepening the appreciation of Japanese culture in the region.
