2013 MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS TO HONOR
New York Asian Women's Center
ニューヨークアジア人女性センター
The New York Asian Women's Center is a non-profit organization created to support Asian immigrant women who suffered from domestic violence. Established in 1982, NYAWC has grown into the largest domestic violence assistance organization in the US.
NYAWC provides 24-hour telephone service in Japanese, counseling, shelter for victims, legal aid services, trial support, and children's programs. They offer information on medical treatment and welfare services free of charge. NYWAC has Japanese counselors and offers free services to Japanese women and their children suffering from domestic violence.
Since they came into being, NYAWC has helped many Asian immigrant women include Japanese victims: protecting both mind and body from harm. Through a variety of activities and programs, they have improved the social welfare.
