Overview of Achievements
Ms. Charlotte White, born in 1914, was in the midst of pursuing her career as a pianist under Mr. Josef Lhevinne when she realized that performance opportunities were extremely limited for young musicians. In 1989, she established Salon de Virtuosi (SDV), an organization aimed to support emerging artists by providing them with chances to perform, ensuring higher visibility. The first concert was held in Ms. White's own apartment. SDV's concert series has expanded from there and now Ms. White organizes numerous salon concerts at prestigious cultural institutions, foreign government organizations (e.g. Consulates of different countries in New York), Steinway & Sons, and many other prominent venues.

From 1995, she began to grant funds to the most talented performers participating in her annual salon series. SDV has also collaborated with WQXR, the classical music radio station, which aired the performances of grant winners on their radio program.

Ms. White also has a deep affection for the music of Asian instruments. She has introduced the public to ethnic instruments and music to which western audiences previously had limited exposure. From the very start, SDV has actively supported many musicians from Asian countries such as Japan, China, India and Korea.

The funds SDV has raised are as much as USD $400,000, which have helped more than 70 musicians so far. Among them, nine are Japanese or are Japanese descendents. Ms. White's dedicated, impassioned work has been greatly appreciated by numerous gifted young musicians throughout the 24 years since she created Salon de Virtuosi.
