Overview of Achievements
As a native New Yorker and social activist, Ms. Suki Terada Ports has brought Japanese, Japanese-American and local communities closer together through her active, impassioned work in the field of civil rights, education, healthcare and cultural affairs.

In 1989, she co-founded APICHA, the Asian & Pacific Islanders Coalition on HIV/AIDS, in order to raise awareness and to expand services such as comprehensive primary care, preventative health services and supportive services, all in a welcoming environment for Asian & Pacific Islanders in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender communities, which is including Japanese and Japanese American populations affected by HIV/AIDS. Since then, she has been a stalwart source of support to numerous other organizations and initiatives working towards the improvement of conditions in local Asian communities.

Ms. Ports has served as a Vice-President and a driving force behind JAA, the Japanese American Association of New York, to ensure that the social, legal and medical needs of the communities are met and that Japanese cultural events such as JAA's scholarship fund and the annual Sakura Festival were enjoyed by a steadily growing number of multicultural participants.
