2015 Consul General's Commendation

MR. RAFAEL PIÑEIRO
MR. RAFAEL PIÑEIRO has made remarkable contributions which ensured the safety of Japanese nationals in
New York City.
A 44-year veteran of the New York Police Department, Mr. Piñeiro served as its First Deputy Police Commissioner from January of 2010 to October of 2014. During this time, he contributed greatly to ensuring the safety of not only Japanese nationals and tourists in New York City, but also that of Japanese dignitaries on official visits.
Mr. Piñeiro was appointed to the New York City Police Department in June of 1970. Graduating at the top of his Police Academy class, he received the Chief of Personnel's Award for the highest combined academic and physical fitness scores. His career has been distinguished by appointments as Inspector in October of 1990, Assistant Chief in February of 1994 and Chief of Personnel in April of 2002.
