2012 MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS TO HONOR

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan announced the recipients of the Foreign Minister's Commendations for 2012, including two individuals from the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Japan in New York:
Yuriko Kikuchi, teacher of the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance and
Yuichi Ozawa, President of the Friends of Japanese House and Garden.
In addition, since this year marks the 100th Anniversary of the gift of sakura, or cherry blossom trees, from Japan to the United States, the Minister for Foreign Affairs decided to confer this award to individuals and organizations involved in the promotion of mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and the United States through sakura. In the Consulate's jurisdiction,
Brooklyn Botanic Garden and
Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia are recipients of this commendation.
The Foreign Minister's Commendation is awarded to individuals and organizations for outstanding achievements in international fields to acknowledge their contribution to the promotion of friendly relations between Japan and other countries.
